Extreme H Unveils Action Packed Format for Inaugural FIA World Cup

London, 26 September, 2025: Extreme H has today announced the unique multi-discipline sporting format that will define its first-ever FIA World Cup, taking place in Qiddiya, Saudi Arabia from 9 to 11th October, 2025. Over three days of high-intensity competition, the event’s eight international teams will battle across three distinct disciplines accruing World Cup Pool points to determine their grid position for the blockbuster eight-car Finale, the winner of which will be crowned the first FIA Extreme H World Cup winner.

Alejandro Agag, Founder & CEO of Extreme H, said: “Extreme H is not only pioneering hydrogen-powered racing, but also reimagining what motorsport can look like. This multi-discipline format is designed to showcase the versatility of our drivers, and push teams, and the Pioneer 25 hydrogen racing car, to their limits, and deliver a truly spectacular show for fans worldwide. To crown our first FIA World Cup champion with an eight-car Finale will be a landmark moment for everyone to build towards.”

In a first for an FIA-sanctioned series, teams of two drivers, with each team comprising one male and one female, will compete in:

  • Day 1, 9 October: Time Trial: Each driver completes a flying lap in sequence, with combined times setting standings. Two rounds of heats will run, with the second’s order determined by Round One results. Two additional World Cup Pool points will be awarded to the team which sets the fastest Super Sector time during the day.
  • Day 2, 10 October: Head-to-Head Duels: Drivers launch side-by-side in short, high-drama races, navigating a technical chicane before the finish. Sixteen heats will narrow the field to four, who progress to knockout Semi-Finals and Finals. With the course differing to the one used for Time Trial and the Multi-Car races, two bonus World Cup Pool points will be awarded to the team with the fastest male and female times combined.
  • Day 3, 11 October: Multi-Car Racing and Finale: The third day delivers wheel-to-wheel action with four-car races across two rounds, awarding crucial World Cup Pool points. The final World Cup Pool points table after the three days will define the grid for a winner-takes-all Finale, where, for the first time in Extreme competition, all eight cars line up together. The victor of this historic race will claim the title of the first-ever FIA Extreme H World Cup Champion.

Extreme H will continue the pioneering equal-gender sporting format first introduced by Extreme E, where every team fields one male and one female driver, sharing equal responsibility on track. With a driver switch in every race except the Head-to-Head discipline, outcomes are decided 50/50 – guaranteeing equal visibility and competitive opportunity.

By building equality into the rules of competition, Extreme H ensures that the world’s first hydrogen racing series is also one of the most inclusive, showcasing the very best of talent, teamwork, and innovation.

The Pioneer 25, developed by Spark Racing Technology, is the race car that will take centre stage in the event. Designed specifically for the world’s first hydrogen-powered motorsport, built on years of data and innovation from Extreme E.

Equipped with cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cells, powered by hydrogen gas, the vehicle’s peak 400kw (550hp) output is capable of firing the 2,200 kilogram, 2.4 metre-wide race car from 0-100kph in 4.5 seconds and scale gradients of up to 130 per cent to help it tackle the toughest terrains with precision and speed.

The FIA Extreme H World Cup marks the next era of sustainable motorsport, combining innovation, competition, and spectacle in a format never before seen in world-class racing. Stay tuned for further details regarding teams, drivers and partners as the countdown continues.
