Porsche, the German automotive giant, closed 2021 with encouraging figures for vehicle deliveries worldwide, with the electric Taycan model as one of the most coveted jewels in the market.

According to figures released by the company, the electrified Taycan more than doubled sales from the previous year with 41,296 units. In addition, the car entered the Guinness Book of Records by becoming the electric car with the highest altitude gain: 4,842.967 meters. The Cross Turismo version made a trip of 2,300 kilometers in one day, going from the lowest point in America accessible by car to one of the highest.

The report released by Porsche emphasizes the high rate of electric sports cars delivered. Around 40 % of the brand’s vehicles supplied in Europe in 2021 were plug-in hybrids or all-electric cars.

Detlev von Platen, Executive Board Member responsible for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG, noted that the overall result is very promising and shows that the strategy to further electrify its fleets is working, and in line with customer demand and preferences.

However, he believes that unit sales are not the decisive factor for the company, but rather seek to represent exclusive and unique experiences for users, which is why they will continue to expand them worldwide.

Positive Global Figures

Porsche increased deliveries on all continents. In the United States, for example, growth was significant, with an increase of 22%. In total, 70,025 U.S. customers purchased a model from the extensive product range.

Despite the encouraging data in North America, China remains the largest single market for the sports car manufacturer and posted an excellent overall result in 2021 with an 8% increase over a record year like 2020. In total, 95,671 vehicles were delivered to Chinese customers, overcoming the challenges posed by semiconductor supply.

Porsche has come out on top in the face of the COVID-19 crisis so that more and more people have access to its prestige cars. “Demand remains high and our order books look very solid, so we start 2022 full of momentum and confidence in all regions of the world,” von Platen pointed out.
