In the wake of the crash that BMW and Audi announced to drop out of Formula E, it’s not all bad news for the electric car racing series. The important Nissan team reported that they would continue in the category in the medium term.

The team noted that its sporting objectives would not change for the moment, so its Formula E program will continue to live in order to continue evolving its electric technology. Tomasso Volpe, global director of NISMO, was in charge of confirming the continuity of the brand.

Although Nissan encountered the refusal of Formula E to extend the use of the new powertrain designed with double MGU, the brand believes that the electric contest still offers the necessary support to develop its electric technology, as well as their image around to electric mobility.

Also, the manufacturer has a strong project within the series with a guarantee partner such as e.Dams, as well as a roster of top-level drivers made up of Sebastian Buemi and Oliver Rowland. Definitely a good foundation on which to build the future of the team in the ‘Gen 3’ era.

Nissan took over from Renault as a partner of e.Dams at the end of the fourth season of Formula E, reason why they participated in two full seasons within the electric series. Two campaigns in which the Japanese firm has achieved notable successes after a victory and six podiums in 2019-20 and reaching a win and five podiums in the ‘Season Six’, in the latter case to finish as team runner-up.

The team will try to break their records in what will be the first year of the series as the FIA World Championship.
