Aegerter on the last MotoE race: “I made a mistake that took away my victory”

Dominique Aegerter has not been able to claim victory in the first races of the 2021 MotoE season, but so far he has established himself as one of the great animators of the event as he is always fighting for the podium.

The Swiss arrived with great aspirations on the track in Catalonia, after a great qualifying day in which he finished in the front row. The E-Pole was very different from the one at Le Mans. Without the rain present, there was a lot of excitement on the track and Aegerter was one of the protagonists.

“I arrived with great enthusiasm and happiness for the result achieved in qualifying, but it was not enough,” declared the pilot, clearly crestfallen after the final victory of the Spanish Miquel Pons.

He recognized that participating in several categories at the same time played against him in adapting him to the event held in Barcelona. “Going from the Supersport World Championship bike, which I won in Estoril a week ago, to the MotoE a few days later was more difficult than expected,” said Aegerter.

Motivated by the return of the public

Despite not achieving the objectives set, Aegerter expressed his satisfaction at the return of the fans at the Catalan Grand Prix. 20,000 spectators witnessed the race live, where the Dynavolt-Intact team rider kept fighting over favorites like Eric Granado and Mattia Casadei and reached 20 points in the championship, one less than the leader, Alessandro Zaccone.

“It was really nice to have the fans live again. I also saw some Swiss flags. I am happy that my compatriots follow the MotoE category and cheer me on.”

“Second place is also a good end to a difficult and sad week over the passing of Jason Dupasquier,” he stressed.

The mistake took him away from glory

Regarding the balance of his participation so far, Aegerter said: “On the one hand I am very happy with the 20 points, but on the other I am a bit upset by a small error that took away my chance to win.

“It was an interesting race from the beginning, there were a lot of battles for positions, but I managed to stay focused and was always ready for anything. I wanted to stay in the lead for as many laps as possible, but when they passed me, I made a little mistake,” admitted the Swiss.

He explained that after his blunder he tried to secure second place and succeeded. “I felt like there were other drivers behind me, so on the last lap I tried to be very smart and instead of catching up with the leader and attacking, I thought a bit about the championship,” concluded Aegerter.
