Rumors grow: Hamilton and Rosberg want Vettel in their teams in Extreme E

Sebastian Vettel’s days in Formula 1 seem to be over. The multi-time champion of the highest category of motorsport, who still holds interesting records, is not even the shadow of the one who delighted motor sport fans.

His move to Aston Martin after several gloomy seasons at Ferrari has not improved the driver’s mood and his physical condition is far from the level required for top competition.

With this scenario, other competitions are beginning to see German as a coveted option for their ranks. This is the case of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, both starting their team in the nascent Extreme E, who have already launched a “call” to Vettel to offer him a place in their respective teams.

Both Rosberg and Hamilton have pointed out that it is quite possible that the German will end up joining the Extreme E because he is a man of challenges, and the new category has impacted the world of motorsport with only one racing weekend in AlUla.

The marketing and dissemination of the tournament, led by Alejandro Agag and Ali Russell, has taken a hit and already has a significant number of sponsors as well as television stations with broadcasts around the world.

In addition, according to sources in the sports press in Germany, the Extreme E would fit very well in Vettel since he shares the values of sustainability and protection of the environment that the series preaches.

From the environment of the Aston Martin driver, it is known that at the end of the F1 season he will be making “the most important decision of his career.” They emphasize that Vettel does not rule out the definitive retirement from the tracks either, but he is already beginning to be seduced by the offers of the other categories, including the world of rallying of which he is a fan.

Reasons to leave F1

There are several reasons that could lead to Vettel’s divorce with the “Great Circus”. The first, his performance in recent races. In the previous season he finished the world championship in thirteenth position with only seven races in the top ten, two retirements and 33 points.

The other aspect that would put him out of the competition is his high economic record. In the pandemic context, it is difficult for any of the teams to open the checkbook to obtain the services of a pilot who, despite his trajectory, is on the way out.

Solid record

Sebastian Vettel has won four Formula 1 world titles with the Red Bull team in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, plus three runners-up in 2009, 2017 and 2018, the latter two with the Ferrari team.

He made his debut in 2007 with the BMW Sauber team and participated in 2008 with the Toro Rosso team achieving his first victory in the 2008 Italian Grand Prix.

October 27, 2013 was a memorable date for the German when he became the youngest driver in history to be four-time champion of the highest category of motorsport.
