The CEO of Formula E, Jeff Dodds, gave an interview in which he explained the challenges facing the electric category in the coming years.

In conversation with TNT Sports, the executive reviewed the three completed rounds of Season 10 and the future of Formula E, GEN3 EVO and GEN4, the levels of competition in motorsport’s top electric racing series and his Predictions for Formula 1’s 2024 campaign.

“Off the track, we have really good momentum. Our fan base continues to grow, by another 30-40 million worldwide during the off-season, and we’ve maintained our status as the number one sport for ESG: environmental, social and governance, which is really important to the team and we feel like You’re in a good place,” he explained.

With regard to broadcasting the tournament, 40 broadcasters from around the world have joined, so from an audience point of view, Formula E is ahead of any projection

“If I had to highlight a couple of things for new fans tuning in, I would first pick out the level of competition. Compared to other sports where there are usually very dominant players, teams or coaches, that’s not the case in Formula E,” he said.

“As we go through the season, obviously there are strong contenders for the top, but suddenly, after three rounds, it’s all up in the air again and everyone is in the mix,” he added.

For Dodds, Formula E is more than just a sport. “When we were founded just under a decade ago (we’re only nine seasons old, babies), we were founded to be an elite motorsport racing series and, maybe, one day, the biggest motorsport championship in the world.”

He was pleased with what he found when he took over as CEO a year ago and applauded the work of his predecessors and Formula E founders.

“Electric cars were in their infancy back in 2014, with only hundreds of thousands of units sold worldwide, and to have that vision when electric vehicles weren’t really something that sold in the tens of millions a decade later is incredible,” he said.
