Extreme E has achieved third place in this year’s Sustainable Championships Index, offering the latest results in sustainability-oriented motor racing.

In the third edition of the report, the series has been highlighted as a leader in the pursuit of sustainability in motor racing, sharing this distinction with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Formula 1 and MotoGP.

“It is fantastic that SChI recognizes Extreme E as a leader in sustainable motorsports. Environmental responsibility within motorsport is now increasingly crucial and, as a series, we will continue to push the boundaries to deliver an exciting racing product, while remaining mindful of our sustainability efforts and raising awareness of the climate crisis,” says Ali Russell, Extreme E CEO.

Extreme and the Sustainable Championships Index

It should be noted that the Sustainable Championships Index annually conducts an analysis of the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of motorsports championships worldwide.

In this edition, 106 two- and four-wheel vehicle championships have been evaluated, using 25 sustainability performance criteria in six key areas: certifications, accreditations and awards; environmental performance; social performance; engagement and partnerships; and sustainability focus.

Thus, the sustainability scores of the championships are divided into five levels: high, medium-high, medium, medium-low and low, and Extreme E has received recognition as one of the best performing championships, as the series continues to excel in showcasing electric SUVs and futuristic technologies in some of the world’s most remote and challenging environments.
