NEOM McLaren Extreme E has revealed that Hedda Hosås will take Emma Gilmour’s place in the final race of the 2023 season of the 100% electric off-road category, scheduled to take place in December in Chile.

He will thus receive another opportunity to climb into the ODDYSSEY 21 after doing so in outstanding fashion in 2022 during the Desert X Prix in NEOM, Saudi Arabia. Now, as the series’ reserve driver, he will have the job of closing the McLaren season in style at the Antofagasta Minerals Copper X Prix.

In that regard, Gilmour’s absence is due to the incident he suffered during the Island X Prix II in September, where he is currently recovering at home in New Zealand.

However, while his improvement has been positive, unfortunately, he is not fit to participate in the Copper X Prix next December 2-3.

Hosås’ first participation with NEOM McLaren Extreme E will take place in the Atacama Desert in Chile, with five teams still in contention for a chance to win the championship in the current edition of the category.

“I’m looking forward to racing for NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team in Chile next week. I send all my best wishes to Emma for a speedy recovery and look forward to doing her and the whole team proud,” says Hedda Hosås.

On the other hand, Gary Paffett, sporting director of the team, said that “Although Emma will not compete in Chile, I am glad that she is progressing well in her recovery. Throughout her time in Extreme E, Hedda has proven to be a strong competitor in the championship and I am confident that she can help us achieve success in our second season in Extreme E”.
