Nick De Vries will take over from Lucas di Grassi at Mahindra Racing which, following the Brazilian’s departure, fills his place with another brand new Formula E Champion.

De Vries returns to the electric series after a stint in Formula 1 with Williams and Scuderia AlphaTauri, which followed the Dutchman’s career to become the series’ first world champion in Season 7.

Mahindra sees De Vries, a champion and four-time race winner, as an “essential asset” for the team to return to title contention in the coming seasons.

Great Motivation

“It’s really exciting to join such an important automaker as Mahindra and represent it in Formula E,” de Vries said after the announcement. “I am particularly excited about the future plans for the team.”

He assured that the squad has a solid foundation that gives all the tools to succeed. “I believe that in the future we will be able to extract even more potential from the project and the organization; being part of that process was very appealing to me.”

“I think it’s no secret that the team has had a bit of a difficult start in GEN3, although there were positive signs of improvement during the second half of last season.

De Vries believes the team can continue to build on those learnings and, with the changes and additional plans implemented for the future.

“Coming back to Formula E will be like coming home. I’ve been part of the Formula E family for three seasons and I know everyone very well. I’m really looking forward to being back in familiar surroundings and somewhere where, ultimately, I’ve always enjoyed my racing,” he concluded.
