A Formula E Ex-Champion Negotiates with Nissan to Return to the Circuit

After the end of season 9 of Formula E, the first of the GEN3 era, teams are beginning to consider options to reassemble their ranks for a new challenge in the tenth season.

Nissan is already listening to different options, among them, the former champion of the electrified series, Nyck de Vries. The Dutch-born driver is living a great adventure in Formula 1, however, in the “Grand Circus”, he does not have the same favorite status as in the category founded by Alejandro Agag.

In that sense, the racer could be evaluating offers for his return to the tournament that saw him at the top of the podium. The tulip became the 2020-2021 Formula E World Champion after finishing eighth in the season finale in Berlin.

Nissan Contacts

According to information released by The Race, De Vries would be the target of the Nissan team to reinforce its project in the competition, a move that would not affect Sacha Fenestraz, but would affect a Norman Nato who climbed the podium in Rome.

Nissan wants to maintain this upward curve and that is where the figure of De Vries appears, who would aim to shape a dual program in 2024, competing in Formula E and Endurance, also seeking to do so at the highest possible level.

This would have the consent of the Japanese, who would not frown upon a driver who in endurance could be with another manufacturer of the same country, as could be Toyota if De Vries returns to the manufacturer’s project.

Other Alternatives

If the option of De Vries falls, Nissan handles Oliver Rowland as another candidate to join the grid.

At the same time, Norman Nato’s representative has already begun to move behind the scenes to find a place for the French driver in another of the championship structures.

The Briton jumped ship from Mahindra in the middle of the current season due to the lack of performance of the Indian firm’s GEN3.

Now he would be willing to return to the team with which he achieved his best performance in Formula E. Rowland competed for Nissan between 2019 and 2021, achieving one victory and a total of five podiums.
