Since its breakthrough in 2014, Formula E has been trying to add big names to the driver grid. However, the series has since that time found itself on a thorny and secretive path.

One of the figures that the category has been looking to attract for some time now is Sebastian Vettel, a high-profile name with four Formula 1 World Championships and 53 wins in 299 races.

Formula E Co-founder Alejandro Agag revealed to talkSPORT to have tempted the former Ferrari driver with the intention of adding him to the grid of the electric category over which he presides.

“I have been trying to convince Sebastian to come to Formula E. He is busy, I think he has a job in the future, I hear,” the businessman detailed.

This latest revelation comes as no surprise, after Vettel himself acknowledged that it would be difficult for him to maintain a life totally apart from the World of Racing, something that he could be close to breaking even though there is no confirmation on the matter for the moment, beyond rumors about a possible return to Red Bull as an advisor to the team, or in some position of environmental responsibility in F1.

Agag opens up the possibilities of Vettel joining Formula E because he is so committed to sustainability and many of the values shared by the championship.

“We weren’t in the right place at the right time,” acknowledges the man at the helm of both Formula E and Extreme E, an electric world that would fit perfectly with the German’s values.

Despite assuring that he will not give his arm to twist in the case of the four-time Formula 1 Champion, Agag was emphatic that it seems almost a given that the racer will have another role coming up.

“He has other important objectives, but whatever he does, he would be a great asset,” the executive concluded.
