Brazil: A Traditional Motorsport Venue Hosts Formula E

The land of world motorsport legends is getting ready to receive a new stop of the exciting Formula E season 9. The city of Sao Paulo will host this weekend the South American E-Prix where 22 drivers will seek glory.

The legendary Ayrton Senna, triple Formula 1 world champion and two-time winner at Interlagos, in his homeland of Sao Paulo; Emerson Fittipaldi – another F1 title winner from the city and two-time champion of no less than Rio de Janeiro and Nelson Piquet Sr., another triple champion set the tone for Brazil to have a historic motorsport heritage.

Local idol and former champion, Lucas di Grassi (Mahindra Racing) will join compatriot Sergio Sette Camara (NIO 333) to race on home soil. “I can’t wait to race in Sao Paulo,” said di Grassi, the Formula E season 3 champion.

The City where He Grew Up

“It’s been a dream for me since the first Formula E race in 2013. It’s been close a couple of times and it hasn’t happened, but after 10 years of hard work and persistence, it will finally happen,” di Grassi expressed.

“I’m from Sao Paulo, I was born just a few minutes away and grew up there. It’s going to be amazing to race in front of my home fans,” he added.

The Mahindra driver predicts a vibrant day, which will close with a great entertainment show under the sustainable standards that the electric single-seater series always poses.

Championship Progress

With a quarter of the campaign completed, Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein led the field. A win-double for the German in Diriyah followed a podium finish in the season opener in Mexico City.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad proved to be a test for the Stuttgart-based manufacturer, with a technical problem jeopardizing the German’s weekend. However, they found the cause of the shunt and Wehrlein recovered to fourth place.

In Cape Town, luck was not on the Teuton’s side when he left the circuit due to an accident, however, the cushion achieved in the previous competitions keeps him in the point of a tournament with a long way to go and in which nothing is defined until the last day.
