The layout of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia has left interesting things ahead of the start of season 9 of Formula E, in which the Gen3 era will debut with the most powerful electric car in the world.

During the test round, Maserati showed signs that its entry into the category will not be a filler, but will seek to be in the fight for the World Championship endorsed by the International Automobile Federation.

The driver of the nascent team, Maximilian Guenther recorded the fastest time of the week so far in a timed test session when the Formula E group spent half of the scheduled days in Spanish territory.

The German had led the way in the first day’s two test sessions at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit and followed with the fastest time of the test so far, under the previous fastest time set by a Formula E car at the circuit with a 1m25 .449s.

Monarch In Adaptation

Stoffel Vandoorne, reigning Formula E champion continues to adapt in the new DS PENSKE team. The Belgian set the second fastest time of the day, although more than a quarter of a second behind Günther.

For his part, Norman Nato with Nissan was third fastest, with a time set with half an hour remaining in the two-hour session. The Frenchman is back in Formula E for Season 9 after a one-year hiatus. The racer left Venturi at the end of Season 7 and will be looking to return to the form that saw him seal a maiden victory in Berlin that year.

Jean-Eric Vergne put both DS PENSKEs in the top four and Edo Mortara ensured there would be two Maseratis in the top six once again with the fifth fastest time of the session.

Regarding another debutant as NEOM McLaren rookie Jake Hughes impressed again to bring the team home seventh, just 0.019 seconds behind Robin Frijns, the ABT CUPRA new boy rounding out the top six.

Beyond the drivers’ times, the Valencian track served as a stage to show the capabilities of the Gen3 cars, and for the teams to fine tune details for the debut of season 9, which will start next January 14 at the Circuito Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.
