After days of deliberations, the FIA World Motor Sport Council approved the inclusion of Portland, Oregon to the Formula E season 9 calendar.

The U.S. race will be Round 12 in the current schedule for the ninth season, which will be comprised of 16 rounds in 11 cities around the world and also includes championship debuts in Hyderabad, India; Cape Town, South Africa; and São Paulo, Brazil.

Formula E has toured the United States every year since the tournament was founded, with the exception of campaign 6 interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Long Beach, Miami and New York City have hosted races previously.

Great Place for Fans

Promoters of the electric series are celebrating the decision, taking into account that the North American territory has a large fan base for motorsports. “We are excited to bring the world’s premier electric motorsport championship to Portland for the first time in June next year,” said Formula E Director Alberto Longo.

“The United States continues to be an important market for Formula E. We are delighted to maintain that critical presence and attract a new audience in the Pacific Northwest region to all-electric motorsport,” he added.

Fans attending the race in Portland will see the debut of the Gen3 race car, billed as the fastest, lightest, most powerful and efficient electric single-seater ever built.

The upcoming season will also feature new names on the most competitive grid in world motorsport. Maserati and McLaren have joined Formula E and will compete with other iconic brands, including Jaguar, Porsche and Nissan, among the 11 teams and 22 drivers in the series.

The updated Season 9 calendar reflects the removal of an event previously shown as TBD in May 2023 and means the race schedule is complete, subject to circuit homologation by the FIA for new venues.

Discussions continue to secure a location in Seoul for Season 10. Major reconstruction work at the site of the Season 8 race, held this 2022, precludes an immediate return and a suitable alternative venue has not yet been identified.
