The new Porsche signing for season 9 of Formula E, Antonio Félix da Costa toured the brand’s headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, to learn about the technology with which they are working to become protagonists during the Gen3 era.

He toured the company’s museum, filled with title-winning race cars from its history, as well as the best city cars from its catalog.

In addition, da Costa went to the current production line of Porsche’s flagship EV: the Taycan, a car he now calls his own and with which he drove the 700 km to Zuffenhausen.

The champion of the 2019-2020 season expressed his motivation and will be actively involved in the development of the “Porsche 99X Electric Gen3” single-seater that he will use in the new Formula E stage, scheduled for next January’s opening day in Mexico.

“I can hardly wait,” he noted in statements released by the official site of the electrified series. “The team is working hard to make sure we have a successful start to the new season,” he added.

The Future is Electric

During his tour of the Porsche facilities, da Costa was able to corroborate the firm’s great project to consolidate itself as one of the leaders in the transition to electric mobility.

The Lusitanian pointed out that if he used to support the change and decarbonization of cars, now he is totally convinced that it is the way to a friendlier planet and the Development of new technologies.

“I always knew electric cars were the future, but this trip totally convinced me,” he said. “It’s great that Porsche is building cars like this. The Taycan has all of Porsche‘s DNA and combines performance and efficiency in a beautiful design.

He said he was “deeply impressed” by the professionalism and love of everyone working at the factory: “It is a pure reflection of the Porsche brand. The close connection between motorsport and road production is definitely one of the secrets of Porsche’s success,” he concluded.

Da Costa arrives at Porsche to replace Andre Lotterer, and has his sights set on leading the team to the top of the podium. He will be partnered by Pascal Wehrlein, who has assumed leadership within the team and already knows what it is like to win an E-Prix after dominating in Mexico.
