India‘s inclusion on theFormula Eseason 9 calendar begins its evaluation stage by the electric single-seater series’ officials.

A four-member team from the ABB FIA World Championship, led by Event Director Marco Greila on a three-day visit to Hyderabad, inspected the proposed track and had a detailed meeting on the arrangements.

As part of the Formula E event scheduled for February 11, 2023, the team of four officials toured the venue to fine-tune details about the racing venue and other related activities, such as fan attractions, among other aspects.

Formula E leaders also evaluated the IMAX building to verify the suitability of providing certain activities linked to the event such as the thrill club, media center, drivers, team and crew briefing room.

Authorities Liaison

The Formula E team also met with the Chief Special Secretary of the Telangana Government to discuss the progress of the preparations for the day.

During the meetings, the official gave instructions to finalize the track alignment and other areas to make preparations. It was assured that all the works will be completed on time.

Track Details

The 2.37-kilometer track was designed by Driven International, which has also worked on recent upgrades to the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. The firm is also working on other projects in India, notably the Nanoli Speedway near Pune and the Marque One Motor Club in Andhra Pradesh.

The track will wind through Lumbini Park, next to the Hussain Sagar Lake. Speaking earlier this year, Mahindra Racing CEO and Team Principal, Dilbagh Gill, said it was the ideal location. “While it is a city race, we are not disrupting public life because there is no civic residence in the area of the track,” he explained.

Notably, the venue will also host two rounds of the inaugural Formula India Regional Championship, along with F4 India and the Indian Racing League in November and December this year.

Motorsport Reunion

The Hyderabad E-Prix will be the first major international racing event to be held in India since the Buddh Circuit hosted the last F1 GP in 2013.

The region will host Round 4 of Season 9, which will mark the start of the new Gen3 era with Formula E’s fastest, most powerful and sustainable race car to date.

The season will also see Maserati and McLaren enter the championship to compete alongside existing manufacturers Mahindra Racing, Jaguar, DS Automobiles, Nissan, Porsche and NIO 333.
