The Formula E Standings after Marrakech E-Prix

With no surprises in the organization, which had to run to replace the Vancouver E-Prix, the race in Marrakech, corresponding to round 10 of the eighth season of Formula E, took place last weekend.

Under intense heat, the 22 drivers battled in an interesting duel that, with six rounds to go, still leaves everything open for an exciting finish to decide who will take the glory.

After the event, the results have once again changed in the general classification, with the first and third places swapping places. With the great performance of its drivers, especially Antonio Felix da Costa who finished second, DS Techeetah consolidates its position in second place in the team standings.

For his part, Stoffel Vandoorne gave an exhibition of how to come from behind, climbing from twentieth to eighth position. That allowed him to stay at the top of the overall standings, in third place. Mortara, the race winner, retook the lead.

Envision Racing’s driver, Robin Frijns, had a black day, finishing 17th without a relevant performance. Porsche also had a complicated competition since Pascal Wehrlein did not take advantage of his fourth starting place and fell down the order from the start, settling for twelfth place; his teammate André Lotterer was fifteenth.

Honeymoon for Mitch Evans

After finishing in style at the debut E-Prix in Jakarta, Indonesia, Mitch Evans used his driving skills to finish in third place and maintain his streak of good results this season.

“I was hoping for a podium, but obviously with everything we had to deal with, you never know what’s going to happen,” Evans said in remarks released by Autosport.

“I lost a lot of ground in the first few laps; Pascal was defending against me, he had a problem and I was defending like crazy. “I just suffered a little bit, lost a bit of time and then had to use a bit of the tire to catch up; it wasn’t ideal, but I got back in the hunt and got a good result,” added the Jaguar racer.

Although Evans had spent half of the race in second place, he was overtaken by the two DS Techeetah cars and it looked like he would miss out on the podium. However, as Vergne began to falter towards the end of the race, Evans planned a move on the Frenchman, but was taken by surprise and had to make an overtake when Vergne pulled up hard for Turn 3 on the final lap.

With the result, Evans climbed to fourth position with 124 points, just 15 points behind leader Edoardo Mortara.

Formula E action returns on July 16 and 17 for a double-header in New York.
