The third generation (Gen3) era of Formula E is just around the corner and motivation is high. A week ago, automotive giant Porsche unveiled its portentous car, and now it’s Jaguar Racing doing the same to test its single-seater that will debut in season 9.

Jaguar Test Driver, Sacha Fenestraz, was in charge of completing the British brand’s first test laps of the I-TYPE Gen3 development car, gathering valuable data and information to fine-tune all the details for the upcoming 2023 championship.

The team continues to live important days after Mitch Evans’ victory in the Jakarta E-Prix, a triumph that put the team back in the fight for the championship. Now, the unveiling and testing of the car, represents another memorable achievement in the history of the institution.

“A key milestone has been marked for Jaguar TCS Racing as we drove our new Gen3 Jaguar I-TYPE development car for the first time,” said Team Principal, James Barclay.

He said the new Gen3 car will be the most efficient in the world and marks a significant technological breakthrough for the all-electric world championship.

“This initial test is key in the development of the new Jaguar I-TYPE, and is a major achievement in our ongoing R&D process that originally began in 2020. Excitement is really starting to build for the whole team as we look forward to the next generation of Formula E.”

Technical Details

Regarding the virtues of the single-seater, Jaguar TCS Racing Technical Manager, Phil Charles, highlighted that with 100kW of extra power, no rear hydraulic brakes, 600kW of ultra-high power, it will become a stunning all-new, all-electric race car for season 9.

He detailed that it has great speed charge capabilities and is much lighter than the Gen2, so expectations and motivation are high.

“These tests proved extremely valuable for the team and now we will return to the factory to analyze the learnings and continue to develop the car. We are all looking forward to seeing the progress of the development car as we look forward to the next generation of Formula,” Charles emphasized.
