The goal of achieving ultra-fast charging of electric vehicles has generated fierce competition among manufacturers and technology companies seeking to overcome the scourge of infrastructure in the electromobility market.

This week, Swiss charger manufacturer ABB, in partnership with Norwegian operator Eviny, introduced the Terra 360, a charger capable of supplying 100% power to cars in less than 15 minutes.

Both companies made the installation in the Oasen shopping center, in Bergen city, and in the Geilo ski resort, in Norway. Eviny’s plan is to continue deploying units of this charger in Norway and Sweden.

Point Features

The Terra 360 has a display that eases the charging and payment process and a design adapted for accessibility for all types of users. It is capable of offering up to 360 kW of charging power in direct current, so that an electric vehicle with such energy could recover 100 kilometers of autonomy in less than three minutes and 100% in a quarter of an hour, practically equating recharging with refueling.

According to the Swiss company, each charging point can recharge up to two cars simultaneously while maintaining maximum power. “We are looking forward to hearing the feedback from the first drivers to try them out,” said Frank Muehlon, CEO of ABB.

ABB notes that its charger has a more ergonomic, modern and eye-catching design and its intuitive user interface provides the end user with an exceptional charging experience.

State Policy

Norway aims to stop selling combustion cars by 2025, the first country to take this step. In 2021, 64.5% of cars sold in the nation were 100% electric vehicles.

According to Electromaps, Norway has more than 7100 public chargers – 400 of which are from the operator Eviny – spread across more than 2720 stations.

The deployment of a fast and plentiful charging infrastructure has been key to why electromobility has penetrated so quickly in Norway. “We know how important it is to ensure a fast and reliable charging experience when deciding to go electric,” said Eviny CEO Jannicke Hilland.
