eSkootr Championship (eSC) has been certified as carbon neutral before the 2022 season debut, to be held next May in London. The CO2 footprint on the atmosphere has been calculated since the beginning of the project and offset through other actions that have granted it sustainable status.

Developing and testing the S1-X generated emissions during 2021. However, these were offset through an investment in two United Nations (UN) Carbon Offset Platform projects, which were recognized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

eSC’s contributions focused on energy and community. The first of these will include the use of clean sources during the championship races, as well as the renewable generation processes that will be injected into the Indian grid, a place selected by the organization to continue expanding the use of micro-mobility, given that, according to figures from the category, more than 80% of vehicle sales were two-wheelers.

On the other hand, the contribution in the community will be made in Malawi with the aim of instilling safer and more sustainable alternatives to traditional campfires in thousands of households. It will also seek to promote equity and development in local areas.

“Motorsport has a crucial role to play in addressing the climate crisis, both on and off the track. By achieving carbon neutrality from the outset, eSC is demonstrating its commitment to measuring and reducing its environmental impact,” said Dr. Cristiana Pace, Chair of eSC’s Sustainability Committee.

Pace says that the idea is to change the way people think about electric scooters and micromobility, using sport as the main platform, while sharing best practices that streamline the transition in the smaller-scale transportation industry over the world’s major cities.

“Showcasing climate action, promoting and improving best practice in sport will be central to all aspects of our championship and we look forward to demonstrating our commitment at the inaugural race in London next month,” said Lucas di Grassi, Co-Founder and Sustainability Ambassador of the eSkootr Championship.
