When the first drones were introduced to the world, several important sectors changed completely, and gradually, others suffered the same consequences. Today it is common to see the use of these devices in the world of cinema, photography, art, even in the military branch. Now, all this technology has been taken to give a twist to motorsports through racing, with Aircrasher being one of them.

Aircrasher is a German drone racing category, where ‘quadcopters’ are modified with small cameras to record everything happening on track. The series was launched in 2018 and featured four races, however and despite the few competitions, the public acceptance led Aircrasher to enable nine sub-competitions in 2019 to meet the applicants’ demand, thus creating the drone division in Europe.

In 2020, 10 sub-competitions were held. By 2021, the coronavirus affected the world population and almost all productive sectors, among which sport stood out. Therefore, the 4th Edition of Aircrasher had to wait a bit until it was rescheduled again with the necessary health and hygiene measures in place.

Drones’ Influence on Transportation Development

Competitions such as Aircrasher have inspired various brands in the automotive and aviation sector to manufacture drones to implement them as transportation systems in urban mobility. Nowadays, it is common to see these small aircraft making deliveries, placing orders and inspiring the next eVTOL vertical take-off and landing vehicles.
