The 2022 MotoE season is wrapping up details to kick off the season in Spanish territory, as Jerez will be the circuit to see the green flag for the first time, on a campaign which will bring important changes explained by Nicolas Goubert, Executive Director of the 100% electric two-wheeled category.

“What we’ve realized so far is that the teams have 30 minutes of testing session, but they haven’t used them fully. So we decided for the upcoming season to have 20-minute sessions. Even for the first day of testing in Jerez we had 15 minutes, just to make sure that the teams are not overloading the batteries, so by the end of the day, they have it in the best possible condition,” he said in an interview for MotoE.

“We still have 18 bikes which is a good number for entertainment, but one of the changes was experienced by Avintia going from two bikes to one. On the other hand, Whitu GRT RNF now has two bikes.”

On the 2022 season motorcycle engine, he also referred: “Yes, that is one of the big novelties of the campaign. We wanted to implement it last year, but the COVID situation prevented us from doing so. New engine and new technology, but the big difference will be the weight, as it is managed to gain 15 kilograms more on the total weight, which will now be at least 247 kilograms.”

“The power and torque of the engine will be the same, in fact, it is very similar to Moto2, but somehow it is still a tremendous change which will be introduced now.”

New Circuits, New Thrills

Leaving behind the technical novelties, Nicolas emphasized the addition of two new circuits to the calendar of the 100% electric two-wheeled competition. “We are going to Mugello, which is one of the most famous circuits in MotoGP. Our sponsors will be happy for us to visit there, you know, Enel X and Energica are Italian so it will be important for them.”

“It will be a challenge for the bikes because the track has a long main straight, where we will see maximum speed, especially with the new engine which can generate a bit more revolutions per minute. Now, the second circuit will be new for everyone and we are also very happy to go to the KymiRing in Northern Europe, in Finland, where people are very passionate about electromobility.”
