Extreme E left an important mark on Nico Rosberg after his first season, as he led his team through an intense battle to become the champion of the category, making history on the electric off-road division, and setting a solid path for the second campaign starting this year.
Johan Kristoffersson and Molly Taylor were the architects on the five demanding X Prix tracks throughout the season. Of those races, Rosberg X Racing won three and set the stage for a memorable fight against the X44 of Lewis Hamilton. It seemed that fate rekindled the 2016 fight from Formula 1 and moved it to Extreme E.
But this time without being inside the vehicle. In Dorset, RXR just had to cross the finish line in fourth position to become champion, no matter what X44 did. The story was a thrilling one, as if it were a movie script. The team arrived in that position and Cristina Gutiérrez and Sébastien Loeb had a perfect weekend.
In the end and despite the victory of X44, Rosberg X Racing enjoyed the champagne for having obtained more victories, since their rival equaled them in points (155) and everything was decided by that factor. Nico Rosberg’s words were not long in coming and he defined what success in Extreme E means to him.

“We are delighted to be crowned as the inaugural Extreme E Champions and I am very proud of RXR. “The team has worked very hard all season and performed consistently, racing in some of the most remote places in the world. To be champions is a great honor. A huge congratulations to our drivers, Molly and Johan, who have been excellent throughout the season,” exclaimed Rosberg amidst the excitement of the title.
In addition to this, the German Formula 1 Champion in 2016 stressed that beyond being champions and fighting for victory in every race, the arrival of Rosberg X Racing to the 100% electric off-road category is due to the need to raise awareness about climate change, as well as the actions that can be taken to correct its course.
