The Drone Racing League Prepares a Big Show in Las Vegas for Final Race

True to its innovative and ground-breaking style, the Drone Racing League (DRL) is preparing an unprecedented event to close the exciting and technological season.

The competition announced that it will hold the final Championship race in Las Vegas, during the opening night of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), to be held in January 2022.

Following the suspension of all events due to COVID-19 pandemic, CES will return as a trade show this winter, and the DRL will take the opportunity to host the deciding contest with 12 drones through an aerial course with scale gates around the T-Mobile Arena.

The location is because T-Mobile is the league’s 5G partner, and many of the visual elements will be in magenta, the telecommunications company’s trademark. This is also the first of five seasons in which the championship is sponsored by Algorand, a blockchain platform concerned with the world of cryptocurrencies.

A Must-See Spectacle

Rachel Jacobson, president of the Drone Racing League noted that the final race for the Championship will showcase the incredible collaboration between T-Mobile and the tournament on the biggest stage for the world’s top technology leaders.

“Our must-attend event will feature innovative technology, cutting-edge sports competition and visually stunning entertainment,” she added.

She detailed that at the show, drones will be illuminated with thousands of LED lights while flying through the neon-colored course elements, making the race the most compelling technology demonstration in Las Vegas.

To make this an even more memorable event, the Drone Racing League arrives with other luxury sponsors this season, such as Canadian drone solutions provider Draganfly for monitoring pilot information like breathing and heart rate. It is also launching a series called “Why I Fly,” telling the stories of the remote drivers competing in the league.

The DRL was founded in 2015, but has grown considerably in a relatively short time, especially among younger fans. Earlier this year, the competition announced that sports betting giant DraftKings would become the league’s official partner, allowing racing to become the first aerial sporting event where fans could bet on the outcome.
