Formula E and MotoE to Continue with Brembo for Braking Systems

With great excitement until the last day, the seventh season of the FIA Formula E World Championship came to an end with Nyck de Vries and the Mercedes team taking the crown. With two races on the same track, the single-seaters competed in Berlin, Germany, the scene of the conclusion.

The third season of the FIM MotoE World Cup, meanwhile, ended a few weeks ago at the Misano Marco Simoncelli World Circuit, and was marked especially on the last two dates by a series of dramatic events, including the toppling of champion Jordi Torres by the penalized Dominique Aegerter.

For both tournaments, the last season was characterized by an impressive parity. Fourteen of the 24 riders could still take the title on the eve of the Formula E definition, while four of the 18 riders were still competing before the final round of MotoE.

The other common feature of the two championships is the braking system manufactured by Brembo in both cases. The two-wheelers have been equipped with the system of the manufacturer on the 18 Ego Corsa motorcycles from Energica Motor Company since the first season, celebrated in 2019, while the electric single-seaters began to rely on the firm from the fifth season.

It was the arrival of Gen2 by Spark Racing Technology, the new-generation single-seaters, leading to the use of Brembo brakes. Much more powerful and high-performance than those that had competed over previous years, the machines can go from a top speed of 225 km/h to 280 km. In addition, the battery capacity increased from 28 kWh to 54 kWh.

E-racing is a very interesting development platform for Brembo, which can test and develop specific technical solutions. The idea is to transfer the new technologies to cars and motorcycles intended for road use.

For both series, the organizers want a uniform braking system for everyone, to avoid affecting the sporting results and escalating costs. The driver with the best braking capabilities has the best chance of being crowned champion.
