With just a few weeks to go until the next-to-last race of the season, Extreme E is fine-tuning details for the big expedition to Sardinia, Italy, for the Island X-Prix. The event will be the first European destination to be visited by the series and will take place in the army training area, a historic zone located southwest of the island.

The electric category, experiencing just its first season, has had to overcome many obstacles due to COVID-19, and the Italian contest emerged to replace the competitions stipulated to be held in South America.

“We are almost at our penultimate race of the first season of Extreme E. It’s been a fantastic adventure so far and I am very proud of what we have already achieved,” stated Alejandro Agag, CEO and founder of Extreme E.

He stressed that as organizers, they are very much looking forward to this event in Sardinia, a place with a great history in rally, and took the opportunity to thank the Automobile Club of Italy, the Region of Sardinia, the Ministry of Defense and the Italian Army for their support in making the X-Prix a reality.

According to Agag, this race will highlight some of the problems facing Europe and the rest of the world. He assured that preparations for the event are going “very well,” and reported that they have a group of scientists who will deliver their expertise on climate emergency and innovative solutions.

Strong Support from Italian Motorsport

Agag’s contact with the Italian Motorsport authorities has been key to the success of the electric series in the region. In this regard, the President of the Automobile Club d’Italia, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, said that the institution is pleased to support the realization of the race, which is keeping everyone at the location excited.

About Extreme E, he highlighted that it is a series gaining great recognition around the world, and underlined the support they have received from the Region of Sardinia. He also praised the work of Alejandro Agag, who has again shown his ability to look to the future.

The category team has been conducting operational reconnaissance in the region over the past few months, with one of the key elements being the route development, using Championship Driver and Track Advisor, Timo Scheider, as well as Tiziano Siviero, Italian Rally Navigator and two time World Champion with Miki Biasion.

So far, teams have tackled the sand dunes of Saudi Arabia, the beaches of Senegal and the rocks of Greenland, and Sardinia will provide a completely different experience for the 18 world-class drivers.
