A few hours before the start of the exciting race weekend in the MotoE electric series, there are several last-minute news conditioning the day’s performance.

As far as free practice is concerned, Eric Granado was widely dominant on the racetrack sponsored by Red Bull Ring. The Brazilian was on top with a time of 1:36.374.

E-Racing Gresini’s Matteo Ferrari, seventh in the overall standings, finished behind Granado in a very close practice, only 8 hundredths slower. In third place was Dynavolt’s Swiss rider Dominique Aegerter, 3 tenths faster than Avintia’s Xavi Cordelus, who finished fourth.

For his part, Spaniard Fermin Aldeguer set the fifth fastest time in this session, just a few thousandths ahead of Yonny Hernandez. Second overall, Jordi Torres finished seventh, followed by Lukas Tulovic.

Despite a very convincing start to the session, LCR E-Team’s Kevin Zannoni suffered a mechanical problem and had to retire prematurely. His teammate Miquel Pons completed the top 10.

Overall leader Alessandro Zaccone suffered a non-injury crash in turn 3, but dropped him out of the top positions. The Italian finished with the eleventh fastest time.

Beyond practicing, a notable news at the Austrian track was the departure of Mattia Casadei, who will be the big absentee this weekend after testing positive for coronavirus. The Italian rider, fifth overall, will be replaced by Stefano Valtulini, who is also competing in the CIV Supersport Championship this season.
