The trend of electric racing that carries excitement and delivers the environment care message has a new partner in the eSkootr, an innovative professional competition for electric scooters.

The series will celebrate its first season in 2021 and promises closed-circuit racing with drivers running at 100 kilometers per hour. The new category, product of a group of Formula E and Formula 1 drivers, plans to pit high-speed, high-powered electric scooters and their riders against each other in a test of driving skills.

The project is promoted by businessman Hrag Sarkissian, former F1 driver Alex Wurz, and by Formula E driver, Brazilian Lucas Di Grassi. Organizers said they “have already partnered with a recognized high-tech vendor” to build them and they will reveal the prototype in the coming weeks.

“Conceived as an all-new electric sporting category, the series will … promote the cost, convenience and sustainability benefits of micromobility,” explained the committee. They also detailed that the competition will take place in urban circuits to meet the objective of bringing electrical energy closer to people.

A differentiating fact with respect to other series is that the participants can be racing drivers, cyclists, skaters, snowboarders, motorcyclists, among others.

“The category’s affordability removes the high barrier to entry seen in most other motorsport series, and its versatility means the series can recruit from a truly diverse cross-section of competitors,” said the panel about the plans of the new racing category.

The scooters will have large platforms, fat tires and full suspensions to handle at high speed.

According to Di Grassi, the emergence of this new sport offers considerable scope to break into the space of electric mobility. “As the discussion around micromobility grows, the Electric Scooter Championship is perfectly placed to amplify the benefits of clean, sustainable transport solutions within our everyday lives,” said the racer, who won Formula E Championship in the third season.

Regarding the objectives set with this competition, the Brazilian pointed out that he is committed to a competition that promote sustainability.
