World E-Bike Series: Jerome Guillaux claimed his fourth win in a row

The World E-Bike Series (WES) raced last weekend the second round of the 2021 season, in which Jerome Gilloux took the victory in the men’s competition, while Melanie Pugin resumed the victorious path in the women’s group.

Both Gilloux and Pugin were successful in Bologna during a tough battle in which they survived an unprecedented physical effort, having to contest qualifying and the race a few hours later.

The Italian event was characterized by a slow start and went from less to more gaining excitement. Most of the cyclists rated the scenario as very complicated, so its performance must have appealed to the technique of each competitor.

Gilloux once again brought out his breed at the front of the handlebars to conquer his fourth victory in a row. Joris Ryf was the one who besieged him the most, but Jérôme showed his quality and the Swiss had to settle for second place again.

The Frenchman had magnificent passages in which he was seen riding with great skill, and he floated his bike on the surface in places where other cyclists were increasingly trapped on the ground. On his side, Cecce Camoin, another of the favorites, finished fifth in Bologna to assault third place in the general table.

Italian Andrea Garibbo managed to secure third place and ended up looking quite refreshed at the finish line, hinting that he will be one of the most powerful rivals in the upcoming competitions.

Pugin dominated in the female

Mélanie Pugin overcame the adversities of the first day and managed to win, beating Nathalie Schneitter who finished second. The third step of the podium went to Jaqueline Mariacher in her series debut. Karen Pepper had some technical problems, however, her fifth place took her to second place in the overall standings. The current world champion extended her lead in the women’s classification over Sofia Wiedenroth.

The climatic conditions in Italian territory were not the best. Despite this, the track withstood the strong storm threats that were anticipated on the stage well.

The World E-Bike Series takes a break after this close fight in Bologna, and will be back next weekend of July 17 and 18 in Clermont-Ferrand, France, where cyclists will meet again on the track.
