Climate change has been the greatest environmental challenge facing the Earth for years as a result of irresponsible human activity in various scenarios. To combat it, innovations such as the WES World e-Bike Series are the perfect mitigation tools.

As the 100% electric bicycle racing category, WES encourages the use of environmentally friendly transportation through sporting action, providing thrills of competition and speed without neglecting the need to always act with the environment in mind.

In this sense, it recently announced its joining the UCI Climate Action Charter with the aim of building a sustainable cycling for the future together with the governing body of the sport at the global level (UCI).

This union will determine the steps taken by the category in terms of reducing the impact of the discipline on the environment, in addition to encouraging and promoting the benefits of greater use of bicycles. In this way, WES adds another important step towards sustainable transition, as in 2020 it joined the United Nations Framework for Action on Sport for Climate.

Key Points for WES

  • Measure climate footprint and report according to internationally recognized standards by 2024.
  • Engage fans, local communities, spectators, media and the general public on the important role of cycling for climate action and sustainable development.
  • Ensure that the effects of climate change are taken into account in future plans.
  • Implement sustainable procurement for events and operations.
  • Reduce energy demand and prioritize electricity from 100% renewable sources.
  • Reduce waste and accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
  • Prioritize low-carbon transportation.
  • Respect nature and raise awareness of the values of biodiversity, the link to sport and the importance of conservation.

About the UCI Climate Action Charter

The UCI Climate Action Charter was developed in conjunction with the UCI’s Cycling for All and Sustainable Cycling Commission. It provides an opportunity for organisations operating within our sport to publicly commit to reducing cycling’s environmental impacts, advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and promoting everyday cycling.

By signing this Charter, they commit to measure and report emissions to internationally recognised standards and take concrete actions to reduce waste and energy demand.
