The spectacular E-Prix of Berlin continues to give a lot to talk about, with regard to the performance of drivers and teams, in a historic circuit that saw more than 300 overtakings in the two days of competition.

Jean-Eric Vergne was one of the protagonists of the German race. The DS PENSKE driver was happy with his third place in Round 8 to score important points in the fight for the title.

Vergne admitted that he did not have the pace to challenge the Jaguar-powered Envision that eventually ran to the top step. Nevertheless, the DS PENSKE driver will no doubt be relieved to have broken into the top 3.

“I’m very happy with the podium,” said the 32-year-old. “The race could have ended any other way quite easily, looking at how difficult it is at the back. Every time I dropped to fifth or sixth, I knew I needed to come back and attack to stay in the top three or four and stay out of trouble,” he explained.

Praise to Cassidy

Envision Racing stole the show in the second race in Berlin. The 28-year-old New Zealand driver emerged as the best on the German circuit after finishing the race with a time of 46:34:509.

On this particular, Vergne was full of praise for Cassidy: “I find it amazing how Nick, who stayed in the lead, didn’t have a deficiency in terms of energy compared to what was behind. I was sure Jake (Dennis) was going to win that race and I’m surprised – those guys look very, very strong.”

“If we want a chance to win the championship, we need to wake up and get better because they’re in a different league at the moment and they’re doing a very good job,” he assured.

Vergne believes his podium finish in Germany gives him a second wind as he heads into the final stretch of the season deep in the fight for the season 9 crown, his first with the GEN3 car, billed as the most powerful and efficient electric single-seater in the world.

Formula E returns next weekend, May 6, for its second stop in Europe with the E-Prix Monaco.
