The Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, Spain, opened its gates this week to present the first taste of the Gen3 era of Formula E with the most powerful electric vehicle in the world.

Beyond the tests that have been carried out separately, the Valencian track will offer lights of what will be seen from January 14 in Mexico City, the place that will have the honor of inaugurating the new stage of the electric single-seater series.

In Mexican territory, 40,000 spectators are expected to fill the stands of what will be the first race of the latest generation of Formula E, with technological cars, a grid of world-class drivers and the most important motorsport brands ready to compete for the glory of the FIA World Championship.

Expectations

The 11 teams and 22 Formula E drivers have three days at their disposal to accumulate kilometers and familiarize themselves with their new Gen3 machinery. There is the opportunity for the teams to drive their cars at will over the course of three days and six sessions, with approximately 6,000 laps.

Each squad leaves behind the productive Gen2 era to focus on the new challenges that mark Formula E’s biggest technological leap so far, with the cars. the fastest, lightest and most sustainable electric race car ever built.

According to official information from the category, the cars can reach a top speed of 200 mph (280 kph), has a smaller and lighter 60 kg chassis, an additional front powertrain and no rear brakes, plus a power output of 100kW with twice the regenerative capacity, meaning that more than 40% of the energy used in the race will be obtained in braking.

All these features will represent, according to the drivers, more overtaking and greater maneuverability on the tight street circuits that have become a trademark of Formula E.

In addition to the changes that the series will bring in 2023, iconic brands such as McLaren and Maserati will be integrated to give more prestige to a competition that is heading for a decade of generating emotions with a sustainable purpose.
