This is the ODYSSEY 21 to be used by McLaren at Extreme E

Extreme E has been a sensation during the first season, which is not over yet, but from day one has served as an example for other brands in the market. McLaren is one of them, and also serves as one of the most iconic in the industry, so it has chosen to join the sustainable transition and be part of the series from the 2022 campaign.

The main protagonist of the action, the ODYSSEY 21, has been officially launched during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) taking place in Glasgow, Scotland. Emma Golmour and Tanner Foust will drive this vehicle over the world’s most demanding and remote scenarios.

The car has the orange papaya color characteristic of the British firm. At first glance it looks robust and elegant like all Extreme E vehicles, but what really catches the eye is the way the bodywork has been designed, featuring ornaments depicting the places where the electrified division will go in 2022 (Arctic, Amazon, Desert and Ocean).

Time for Transition

It has been shaped this way to pay homage to the nascent legacy that Extreme E is embodying upon the world through its teams, staff and all the stakeholders who have made this green movement possible.

“Extreme E is a sport dedicated to use its platform to inspire and excite motorsport fans about sustainability and solutions…. It is certainly a very positive direction that the McLaren team is engaging in, and I wish great success to them all,” said Extreme E founder, Alejandro Agag.

The Woking-based team becomes the tenth squad to join the official grid of the first 100% electric off-road category, and according to them, their participation in this innovative approach to motorsport is due to a “journey of discovery that is underpinned by the need to accelerate McLaren Racing’s sustainability”.
