Sparkcharge launches Roadie, a powerful portable battery charger to prevent electric vehicles from running out of power

Charging stations and autonomy have become a permanent challenge for electric vehicle development worldwide. Deploying a solid infrastructure, as well as long-lasting batteries, are major challenges many companies have decided to embrace.

One of them is Sparkcharge, a world leader in portable chargers, that launched a small battery device to extend its life up to a maximum of 88 kilometers.

The name is Roadie, a battery device with its own plug to be connected to the car’s power supply. This service assists users of an electric car that has run out of autonomy and does not have a nearby charging station.

Although the device is on the rise among organizations and individuals who wish to acquire them, Sparkcharge keeps working and has partnered with its peer Urgently to strengthen this system.

The alliance combines Roadie with Urgently’s Smart Mobility Assistance platform and brings on-demand mobile DC fast charging infrastructure to more markets than currently available.

Energy storage

One of the benefits of Sparkcharge’s Roadie is the possibility of having an extra charge to prevent drivers from running out of options. This way they will be able to travel with that extra energy to the nearest recharge point.

The company offers this program through an application that allows users to have a Roadie, a charging robot specialized in these cases. The plan, according to the organization’s official portal, costs 25 euros per month.

Fast and portable

Speed is one of Roadie’s qualities. The charging system generates 15 miles of range in just 15 minutes. That’s eight times faster than standard wired charging stations.

Plus, it gives the ability to perform the process anywhere. No fossil fuel-burning trucks or special vehicles are required. Sparkcharge equipment is small enough to fit in the trunk of any car and can be carried with newly deployed handles.

Green and modular

The innovation introduced by the company is 100 percent electric, with no gas-polluting generators to negate the purpose of having an electric vehicle. It also offers custom charging, as batteries may be stacked on top of each other working together to provide the required amount of autonomy.

“We want to accelerate electric vehicle adoption on a global scale to create a cleaner, healthier, safer and more sustainable world,” said Josh Aviv, CEO of SparkCharge. “We are pleased to welcome Urgently to our network and partnering with them to provide smart mobility assistance with on-demand charging.”

Chris Spanos, CEO and co-founder of Urgently, noted that “mobile electric vehicle charging is among the innovative and vital services we have identified to support our partners’ electric vehicle strategies and enhance their customers’ ownership experience.”

“We are excited to partner with SparkCharge to provide electric vehicle owners a greater feeling of security in knowing they won’t be stranded without access to reliable on-demand charging support,” he added.

Sparkcharge currently has more than two hundred Roadie systems in use across 15 markets and this partnership with Urgently will help bring on-road charging to many more owners around the world.
