In almost a decade, Formula E has only set foot on Spanish territory for pre-season testing at the Valencia Autodrom. This aspect draws considerable attention, taking into account that the founders of the category, Alberto Longo and Alejandro Agag are natives of the Iberian nation.

In an interview with “The Race“, Longo informed that he is negotiating with the city of Malaga and other cities in Spain, for an E-Prix to be held in 2024.

The approach is being made through an initiative of the Malaga City Council, but it is foreseeable that other institutions and private companies will join in to assume the cost of the show.

Longo specifies that the negotiations are in progress, but he understands that they will still have to advance much more so that it is possible to think about the existence of an agreement for the dispute of the event.

“It is true that there are one or two cities that are really interested and we are investigating deeply, but it is too early to say. Let’s see how it goes,” says Longo.

During his conversation with The Race, Longo did not offer details on which other Spanish city might be behind this request to host an electric joust.

What has not transpired is where a race could be held in Malaga. It is foreseeable that a street circuit will be adapted in the city, most likely in the area of the Town Hall, Paseo del Parque and Paseo de los Curas, but the project is still in the development phase, which suggests that the idea will have to be developed much further before, if it is the case, the race can be confirmed for next year.

For this season, Formula E has significantly expanded its calendar to 16 races, in line with its ambitious plan to reach every corner of the world. The electric single-seater category races in remote places such as Indonesia and India, Latin American cities such as Sao Paulo and the traditional stop in Europe.
