Although changes may still happen in the Formula E teams list, there are already squads that have confirmed their commitment to the category for season 9, when the third generation (Gen3) cars are expected to arrive.
Porsche, Nissan, NIO 333, Jaguar, DS Automobile, Mahindra Racing and Maserati, which will debut in the next campaign, have already said yes to the promoters of the electric single-seater series in this new technological path that seeks to generate more emotions in urban tracks.
Although it is true that the current champions, Mercedes-EQ, announced their withdrawal from the tournament, it is very likely that they will contribute all their technology and a large amount of technical equipment to McLaren, which is adjusting details to enter the event.

Once all the details are completed, Formula E will offer the official list of the teams that will make up the new era of the electric sport, but what is certain is the presentation of the powerful car on April 28 in Monaco, one day before the weekend of the races in the principality.
The Organization’s Approval
With seven major manufacturers such as those mentioned above, which have a significant weight due to their history and innovations, the newly elected president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Mohammed Ben Sulayem, expressed his satisfaction with the commitment expressed by the teams to the development of Formula E.
“As a testing ground for the mobility of the future, Formula E has always been at the forefront of technology, as demonstrated by the Gen3 car, and we are confident that the next era will mark an exciting chapter in the electrifying history of the series,” he said.
For his part, Jamie Reigle, CEO of Formula E, said they are excited to welcome many of the world’s most innovative and competitive automakers to the Gen3 era of the FIA-endorsed World Championship.
“The Gen3 race car will take Formula E’s iconic downtown racing to a new level, creating more intense action and drama on the track and taking a leap forward in electric mobility off the track,” he noted.
Reigle noted that the new stage of the tournament will set the standard for performance and efficiency and serve as further tangible evidence of the innovative developments in electric vehicles achieved by manufacturers in the championship.
What is the Gen3 Era?
This new Formula E challenge is about the evolution of your car. At least 40% of the energy used in a race will be produced by regenerative braking during the same competition.
In addition, it will be the first formula car with front and rear powertrain: a new front engine adds 250 kW (335 Hp) of power to the 350 kW (470 Hp) generated by the rear engine, and with 600 kW in total (805 Hp) it has more than double the capacity of the Gen2.
It will not have rear hydraulic brakes: this is explained by the addition of the front powertrain and its regenerative capability. In addition, the rear electric motor, which delivers up to 350 kW of power, allows a top speed of 320 km/h (200 mph).
The Gen3 will have a power-to-weight ratio that is twice as efficient as an equivalent combustion engine (470 hp).
