Robin Frinjs Recovers and will be in Sao Paulo

After an accident-marred start to the season in Mexico City that took him out of the race, Robin Frinjs returns to the track this weekend for the E-Prix of Sao Paulo.

The ABT CUPRA driver was involved in a collision on the first lap in which he fractured his wrist. Since then, he has had to undergo surgery on the hand and, as a result, missed the next four rounds.

Describing the wait to return to racing as an “eternity,” Frinjs had been replaced by South African racing driver Kelvin Van Der Linde. Frijns will return to the Brazilian paddock, Formula E’s first visit to the country that has a special relationship with motorsport, and will be reunited with teammate Nico Muller.

Happy for the Recovery

“It feels amazing to be preparing for a race again with Nico and the whole team, it’s so good to be back,” Frijns said in a statement issued by ABT CUPRA.

“The last two months have felt like an eternity. Many thanks to the team, the FIA, all the doctors and physios, and the entire Formula E paddock, who have been patient with me despite my impatience,” he detailed.

Welcome back, Robin! 👋

This will not be Frijns’ first race since the surgery. He raced at Sebring in a 12-hour endurance race last weekend that he listed as a success.

“My hand feels good, the races at Sebring went smoothly, I’m in shape for Sao Paulo. I was in contact with the team all the time, I participated in everything and I am up to date with all the procedures: the race weekend can begin,” he assured.

ABT CUPRA is getting ready for Brazil after a four-week break since the last event in Cape Town, where the team did not start the joust due to a safety issue with one of its Mahindra-supplied parts.

“The break was good for the whole team, everyone was able to take a deep breath and regain new strength,” said Thomas Biermaier, ABT CUPRA Director.

“We are now delighted that Robin is back and will certainly support us with his expertise. At the same time, we thank Kelvin, who has done a great job on and off the track over the past two months and will of course remain part of the team, he concluded.
