Progress in Discussions to Host Formula E in Malaga

It is paradoxical that the directors and Formula E founders are from Spain, but the country does not have any race in the calendar of the electric single-seater series.

This situation could change in the coming tournaments, although there is still a lot of work to be done to make the category part of the schedule.

Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds revealed that they are in advanced talks with Malaga to host an E-Prix in 2024. The competition has a lot of interest in the Spanish market due to the popularity of motorsport.

Fight with North America

Dodds said the main competition for Malaga is a second race in the United States, but the Formula E project in Los Angeles will not be ready until 2025. The Andalusian city is preempted to fill next year’s May 25 calendar vacancy, as the two sides are in advanced talks.

“We have three unconfirmed events on the calendar and we are in talks with different cities. I wouldn’t rule out a second race in North America alongside Portland. Spain also has a huge motorsport following at the moment and we have a lot of conversations going on with them, all very advanced,” Dodds told Motorsport.com.

Meanwhile, Formula E Co-founder Alberto Longo reveals that two of the slots will almost certainly go to Hyderabad and Cape Town, who will keep their date from earlier this year.

“I would say that two of the slots will be for Cape Town and Hyderabad, both cities are excited to host Formula E again. The reason they are not confirmed is because of the lack of clarity there has been in some of the negotiations. We do have to agree on different financial aspects between now and October, when we will announce the final calendar for 2024″, he explained.

Doubts about the venues for Season 10 will be cleared up next October, when the World Council of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) will be held.
