Partnership between Formula E and UNICEF Has Positively Impacted Over Three Million Children

Formula E and UNICEF announced that their innovative three-year partnership has had a positive impact on more than 3.5 million children and young people worldwide, transforming their lives through innovative interventions against climate change.

As the first global sports organization to partner with UNICEF in 2021 to address climate change, this unique and ambitious alliance has led the way and helped UNICEF create impactful, sustainable, and transformative climate change initiatives in every corner of the planet.

Through investment in UNICEF’s climate programs as part of the Safe and Healthy Environment Fund, the collaboration focused on helping to create a planet where all children can live in a safe, clean, and sustainable environment.

This is achieved by ensuring that the services children depend on, such as education and healthcare, are resilient and that young people are empowered through the development of knowledge and skills to take climate action.

Projects

A key example of a local initiative funded by the partnership is the network of rainwater harvesting and purification systems in schools in three Mexican states, which positively impacted nearly 22,000 students, 1,276 teachers, and their local communities.

The partnership between Formula E and UNICEF contributed to UNICEF’s global work for children in climate-related areas and supported holistic climate programs worldwide, which in 2023 included reaching 23 million people in 63 countries with climate-resilient water, sanitation, and hygiene services.

It also enabled the provision of solar energy to health centres in 67 countries, the construction of over 7,600 solar-powered water systems, the integration of sustainability and climate action into educational programs in 73 countries, and the engagement of youth in climate action and policy-making in 124 countries.
