Last Friday, in Vallelunga, Italy, took place the official launch of the 2023 season of the FIM Enel MotoE World Championship, the 100% electric circuit motorcycle category, “sister” series of the MotoGP, the queen of all categories.

The launch of the series was attended by Francesco Starace, CEO and General Manager of Enel, Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor and Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, who welcomed everyone during the event, followed by a presentation by Elisabetta Ripa, CEO of Enel X Way (official smart charging partner of the championship) and Philippe Jacquin, Senior Vice President of Tire Development at Michelin, (sole official tire supplier).

In addition, the launch also saw the Ducati V21L, the official motorcycle of the series, riding around the Vallelunga circuit in the hands of the experienced rider Alex De Angelis. Thus, a new era of electric racing will begin next May, with a new motorcycle that will replace Energica as the official manufacturer.

A New Era

After an exciting 2022 season that put an end to the Energica era as manufacturer, the Ducati stage in the FIM Enel MotoE World Championship is born, where all the technology will be studied in detail to bring it to the street production models.

“The decision to participate as the sole supplier of the bikes is a pillar of Ducati’s strategy. In fact, electrification, together with the introduction of carbon-neutral fuels for internal combustion engines will be necessary to reduce the company’s carbon footprint, as well as allowing us to achieve our long-term sustainability goals,” assured Claudio Domenicali.

He also revealed that with V21L, Ducati’s official motorcycle for the series, they wanted to challenge the limits of the sector with the aim of creating the highest-performance two-wheeler ever created for tracks and sports competitions, taking on the challenge of having 18 riders with different needs and riding styles.

On the other hand, Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel, also offered his thoughts about this new stage that the category will live from 2023. “We are proud to partner once again and to have the addition of another Italian excellence like Ducati on board with us for this journey, supporting the electrification of transport, which is key to ensuring the energy transition,” he sentenced.
