A few weeks before the last day of the Extreme E season, teams are already starting to think beyond in order to strengthen their templates and technical system. One such case is Nico Rosberg who, after a dominant debut, is already making calculations of what is to come in 2022.

During an interview for the e-Formel portal, the former Formula 1 World Champion revealed that he is in negotiations for his payroll, the JBXE Racing has a manufacturer behind for the second campaign of the electric off-road series.

“I would like to have a partner for next season. We are currently in very good talks. A German manufacturer, of course, would be ideal, but it can also be very interesting on an international level,” he said.

Despite the possible inclusions Rosberg may bring, he noted that automakers need approval for Extreme E’s development, with the goal of achieving technical added value. He assured that constructors’ inclusions must be done gradually, since not all teams have the capacity to have a partner to back them up and the championship cannot lose its balance.

Strength in the Series

Rosberg also took advantage of the conversation with e-Formel to review aspects to be improved for the second season, so Extreme E can establish itself as a sport. Specifically, he referred to the cars which have suffered some inconveniences at different races of the current course.

“It shouldn’t be that so many cars breakdown.” “Sure, if it makes mistakes, you should lose time, but not that they break down. Extreme E still has to work on stability. Races automatically become more exciting when more cars can be directly fighting. That’s one of the problems that needs to be solved right now,” he said.

Challenging Terrain

Although Rosberg X Racing was once again on top of the Island X Prix and celebrated most wins this season, things did not go smoothly for the German team in Italy due to the difficult terrain. On Saturday particularly, they ran into trouble after a rollover for Molly Taylor and a flat tire for Johan Kristoffersson.

“It’s a big challenge to read the area so well to pick the right tracks,” Rosberg said. “We didn’t have a good start in Italy, and that’s an area where I’ll be behind again in the final because we can do better.”

He noted that both Formula 1 and Extreme E are not just about speed, but about intelligence. “You have to make the right decisions. Before the races we spend hours together on the computer in meetings. We try to discuss all kinds of problems and how we can avoid them,” he revealed.

Finally, the world motorsport star expressed his satisfaction at being able to contribute his experience to the team’s drivers not only as a racer, but also in his role as head of the entire squad.
