With three consecutive podiums, Envision Racing driver Nick Cassidy is in the fight for the Formula E title, although it is certainly too early to say who will be fighting at the top of the standings.

Cassidy is on track for his best campaign in the electric single-seater series. He currently sits third in the World Drivers’ Championship, with 61 points, just seven less than his season 8 total, in just six rounds of a 16-race calendar.

After leading several times in the first race of the tournament in Brazil, the Envision flag bearer finally had to settle for second place, with Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans taking the win.

Unforgettable Experience

After the day on Brazilian soil, Cassidy assured that it was the best Formula E stop since he has been part of the championship and revealed that he had a lot of fun during the contest.

“I said I’d be super happy with a podium today,” he told Formula E pit lane reporter Nicki Shields after his top-three result in Sao Paulo.

In a thrilling finish with Cassidy attempting victory on the final lap, Evans held off the pressure and also held off Jaguar’s Sam Bird, who had 2% more energy than the top two after fighting his way up the grid from 10th.

“I knew [how much energy Sam had], and that was the reason Mitch went off. I knew getting the win would be pretty tough. I would have to do something special with Mitch to change that, but I was at a high risk of third,” Cassidy explained.

Evolution

Reflecting on his past seasons after making his 37th career start in Sao Paulo, Cassidy believes he can see the improvements he is making.

“It’s all positive things: all credit to Jaguar, but also to Envision and my guys. I’ve been pushing hard and giving them ideas, and they’re really listening to me. They’re taking it on board and giving me the freedom to go in my direction and do my thing. That helps, and I’m also very lucky to be in that position,” the driver stressed.
