After a fatal 2020 with the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting the Formula E calendar, New York City dresses up to welcome back the E-Prix in season seven.

The electric single-seater series will race for fourth time in history in Brooklyn, a layout that comes for July 10 and 11 with some important changes that drivers will have to consider when they hit the track.

Among the most important changes announced by organizers at the presentation were the adjustments to what used to be turn 1, which now has five consecutive turns that end with a straight line for a perfect finish at the finish line.

Also, adjustments were made regarding turns 2 and 3, in order to have a more fluid track allowing racers to overtake rivals, which makes it more exciting for spectators. In addition, track layout had a 10 to 14 angles increase, resulting in a 2,374 meters long track.

Despite these aspects, Formula E said that the overall essence of the stage remains the same for this weekend’s event. There is only one detail in pit lane, which used to be a “U” shape to connect the straight located between turns 13 and 14, and now it is parallel to the exit. Meanwhile, the so-called attack zone will now be at turn 10.

Track layout

New York already knows what it is to host a major Formula E events. In 2018-2019 campaign, the city that never sleeps hosted the grand finale, a thrilling day that ended with wins for Sebastien Buemi and Robin Frijns. However, it was Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne who won the title, becoming the first driver to repeat the championship.

The circuit is located around the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, in the heart of Brooklyn’s well-known Red Hook neighborhood. The impressive track offers views of Liberty Statue, the Buttermilk Canal and Lower Manhattan, no less.

The record for the fastest lap of the competition held on North American soil is set by Daniel Abt, Audi Sport Schaeffler team driver in 2019.
