MotoE: Miquel Pons endured the pressure as a rookie and won in Barcelona

Although there are clear favorites on paper to occupy the first places, once the drivers take to the track anything can happen and each rider on the grid leaves with their aspiration intact.

This was the case of the Spanish Miquel Pons, who prevailed in Barcelona to win his first MotoE Grand Prix. The Swiss Dominique Aegerter finished second and the current champion, Jordi Torres, completed the podium.

The electric motorcycling series closed an exciting day in the sport of two wheels, which began the day with the highlight of the Moto GP. Eric Granado, one of the rivals to beat, began bad since his motorcycle did not start. Although they were able to solve the problem, the Brazilian started late from the pit lane, a situation that took him away from the podium.

Zaccone went ahead in a very even fight

At the beginning of the fair Alessandro Zaccone dominated, showing that his victory in the initial Jerez circuit was not the work of chance. Aegerter, Torres and Pons were on the Italian’s trail.

Parity was the characteristic in the race. Up to nine riders were grouped together fighting for the top positions, until on the penultimate lap, a crash for Mattia Casadei and on the last, another for Eric Granado, they debugged the final clean and jerk.

Pons took center stage in the closing turn by winning a few key meters over his opponents and crossing the finish line at the top. The rookie did not feel the pressure and contained the onslaught of Aegerter, who fell short.

The Italian Zacone finished in fourth position after a beautiful duel with Yonny Hernández, and maintains the leadership of the world championship with just one point ahead of Aegerter. Tulovic, Okubo and Perolari closed the first 10 places in the Catalan battle.
