MotoE: Granado lands in Barcelona more favorite than ever

The 2021 MotoE season has already picked up pace after the COVID-19 pandemic stopped, and returns today for its third day in Barcelona, Spain, where the riders arrive with intact aspirations to gain ground and place themselves at the top of the classification.

This is the case of Eric Granado, who gave an exhibition on the last race held at Le Mans and with a movie advance on the last lap, left the French track in triumph.

The Brazilian is the favorite to take the title, a label that he has more than confirmed in the training sessions prior to the season, and if it weren’t for his spectacular fall in his debut in Jerez, he would already have had two wins in the same number of careers.

A new setting

The Openbank Aspar Team opens this weekend at the Barcelona circuit, where to date the electric category of the World Championship had not yet competed.

“It is a circuit that I really like. As we have never been here with MotoE, free practice will be very important to understand the behavior of the bike and find the ideal scenario. I hope to have another good weekend to score many points in the championship,” declared Granado in the previous one.

“Our goal in Barcelona is to score points for the championship. The victory at Le Mans was sensational, especially because winning in MotoE is very difficult due to the technical conditions of the race, which is very short and has very high-level riders and teams,” he added.

The driver stressed that the goal is to reach the final double round of the season fighting for the title. “If we win one more, the better. If not, that’s fine too. The important thing is to climb the ranking,” said Granado.

The One Energy Racing team member took the opportunity to express his condolences after the fatal accident that ended the life of the Swiss Jason Dupasquie, who did not withstand the serious accident in the official Moto3 practice in Mugello.

“It is difficult for us to move forward and continue to accelerate, but it is our passion and we do it because we like it a lot, just like Jason. We are all going to run for it, it is in our thoughts,” said Granado.

The Italian Alessandro Zaccone arrives as leader in Barcelona after the victory in Jerez and the podium in France. The five points advantage with which he left the Spanish Grand Prix became eight after a heart-stopping race in France, where the rain took center stage and disrupted the teams’ plans.

Mattia Casadei and Dominique Aegerter are the first two pursuers of the Italian, although Eric Granado and Jordi Torres are closely watching them and are emerging as pilots with experience to come back in the tournament.
