Berlin Airport was once again the scene of a Formula E doubleheader, a venue that is already part of the history of the category that has visited the German capital in all its seasons.

In the first race on Saturday, April 22, Mitch Evans and Sam Bird executed a perfect strategy to secure a spectacular double for Jaguar TCS Racing.

Maximillian Günther in third place put the iconic Maserati trident on the podium for the first time since it returned to single-seater racing this season after a break of more than 60 years.

In a race where strategy reigned supreme, the capacity crowd at the Tempelhof Airport circuit witnessed 190 overtakes, 53 lead changes and eight different leaders in charge, all breaking previous Formula E records.

The event also marked the European debut of the GEN3, the world’s fastest, lightest, most powerful and efficient electric racing car, and the cutting-edge EV lived up to its potential as the first formula car designed specifically for wheel-to-wheel racing on high-speed street circuits.

Round 2

In Sunday’s race, the race went to Envision Racing’s Nick Cassidy, who sealed the win in Round 8, coming from a day in which he started eighth.

The exclusive Berlin Tempelhof circuit produced an intensely tactical second race, packed with overtaking (172 in total), making 362 over the weekend, and featuring another strategic masterclass from the winner.

Cassidy gave a masterclass in front of the wheel to stay there, setting the pace and mastering the Formula E tightrope of maximum pace, racing skill and energy.

Preserving energy was again crucial on the track. Cassidy fought back and withstood pressure from each of his closest championship rivals.

Jake Dennis (Avalanche Andretti), now just four points behind championship leader Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team), was within striking distance of Cassidy, just half a second back as they crossed the finish line.

Wehrlein started sixth, in a stronger position than in recent races, after complaining of poor one-lap pace in qualifying, but was shuffled down to seventh by the end of the race.

Round 7 winner Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) made up a place from his grid position to finish fourth, making it an excellent weekend’s work for Jaguar.

Formula E’s journey through the old continent will continue next May 6 in the Principality of Monaco.
