On Saturday at the Hungaroring was at the height of the Pure ETCR, but on Sunday it was simply amazing with the on-track performance of Mikel Azcona, who ended up establishing himself as the king of the category at the Hungaroring after showing an excellent driving display that did it, climb important positions in the final stretch of the championship.

First of all, the Spaniard led the Time Trial in Group B to secure a place of honor in the DHL SuperFinal B. His Cupra X Zengo Motorsport was squeezed to the maximum to take a 1.6 second advantage over his closest pursuer and he was able to close the lap at 2.26.309.

Jean-Karl Vernay and Tom Chilton accompanied Azcona as the three fastest, although not by much, as Chilton received a three-second penalty for exceeding the limits of the Hungarian circuit at Turn 4, leaving the table set for Daniel Nagy and his Cupra as third for the rest of the weekend.

On the other hand, Phillip Eng won the DHL SuperFinal A, being the direct competitor of the Spanish, having the conviction of becoming the king of Hungary after beating Mattias Ekström with a good maneuver when both were traveling through Turn 1 of the circuit, and from There he practically did not move until the end of the battle at five turns.

Mikel Azcona’s domain

Mikel Azcona knew that his priority was to win the weekend and he was. The pace, aggressive and conservative driving allowed him to show a dominance that he reflected throughout the weekend in his CUPRA X Zengo Motorsport, despite losing the advantage for a few moments at the start of the race against Luca Filippi .

However, the glory moments did not last long for the Italian, as Azcona and Jean-Karl Vernay attacked with everything to go on to dominate the dispute. However, a long race time, the Spaniard was the man behind the steering wheel to reap all the points he could achieve (77 units).

The rest of the podium was completed by Vernay and Daniel Nagy, still with his career compromised in the middle of it when he starred in an incident with Filippi, although he could lose the position since the race stewards will evaluate what happened to determine if the action was illegal or it was simply part of the dispute.

In this way, the Pure ETCR will travel to France with up to five candidates (Mattias Ekström, Jean-Kar Vernay, Mikel Azcona, Jordi Gené and Rodrigo Baptista) to achieve glory and become the first champion of the 100% electric touring car category .
