In just two months, Spaniard Roberto Merhi went from rookie test to being side by side with the best drivers in Formula E, in the middle of the competitive Season 9.

After his debut in Jakarta, the Iberian racer will also be part of the grid that will take to the track this Saturday, June 24, at the first stop of the electric single-seater series in Portland, United States.

Merhi replaced Rowland who had to compete in Formula 2 on the weekend of June 3, but Mahindra has once again placed its trust in the Spaniard.

“I am very happy to be back in Portland with Mahindra Racing. After Jakarta, now I have more experience in the car, which will help me a lot and I can continue to improve from where we left off,” he said in statements reviewed by Motorsport.

What does He expect?

Merhi sees an advantage in racing at a circuit that will not only be new for him, but for the rest of the grid. “I think the fact that it is a new circuit for everyone will be beneficial, as everyone will start with the same level of experience on the track.”

In Jakarta, Merhi tried to minimize losses and put in plenty of kilometers to finish 18th and 17th completing the two races.

“I’ve been working hard with my engineers and the team to learn how to adjust my driving style to this unique car. Let’s see how it goes in the next race, but I’m optimistic that we can make a good step forward. I would like to thank Mahindra Racing for the trust and support,” he concluded.

Formula E season 9, the first season for the powerful Gen3 car, is reaching its culminating stage. After Portland, there will be only two more rounds left, with four races, i.e. two double-headers in Rome in mid-July and in London at the end of that month.

For both, which will end the 2023 Formula E Season, Mahindra will be deciding race by race, so it is neither confirmed nor ruled out that Merhi will continue with them for the remainder of the season.
