After a great debut at the Pure ETCR, Mattias Ekström did it all over again at Motorland Aragon and won the second race of the 2021 championship, just as he did at Vallelunga when he was better than the rest and also left Italy with the highest number of victories.

On board his CUPRA X Zengo Motorsport, Ekström dominated from start to finish to impose his conditions on Spanish asphalt to win DHL Super Final B after a promising start where he managed to open a two-second gap over his closest challenger, the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR Jean-Karl Vernay, who started from pole position.

The victory assured the driver the “Weekend King” title, despite Augusto Farfus’ victory at the DHL Super Final A. However, Luca Filippi, a competitor who could ruin Ekström’s Sunday, started with a mechanical failure (loose connector) which prevented him from getting into a competitive pace.

On Farfus’ side, there was no lack of action either, as one of the stronger rivals, Mikel Azcona, ended up out of the race following an incident with the Brazilian driver that sent him straight into the gravel trap without being able to get out of there.

“The whole race was a battle. It’s a good result and I’m very satisfied with the first victory in the SuperFinal,” said Farfus. On the other hand, Jean-Karl Vernay had shown a competitive pace on Friday and Saturday after taking the pole position for race B, but was eventually beaten by Ekström.

This completed the second race in history of the world’ s first 100% electric touring car category, which debuted at the Autodromo Vallelunga with high expectations, and has not disappointed so far with adrenaline, speed and battles on track.
