Mattia Casadei: Experienced Rider Flying on MotoE Tracks

MotoE, the Electric Motorcycle Series, has a famous grid of pilots who bring prestige to the competition. One of them is Mattia Casadei, one of the most experienced among stars such as Eric Granado, Jordi Torres, Alessandro Zaccone and Dominique Aegerter.

Casadei has fought hard this season for the title, but a setback in Austria, when he was unable to participate for testing positive for COVID-19, has practically taken him out of contention.

About his evolution in the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) championship, the Italian assures local media that he has made changes to his riding style that have greatly helped him to consolidate his position.

“I have changed a lot in terms of working with the team (Ongetta); we have a top-notch team. Before, I had always done CIV 600 and CEV Moto3, while MotoE is a world class. As far as I’m concerned, I’ve made a good leap forward because I have more confidence in myself”.

New Tracks and Bike Control

About the large number of circuits premiered in the current season, Casadei said: “I like the new tracks and this has caused more battles between riders”.

He explained that with the experience, he has been developing some tricks to improve the handling of the vehicle. Given the impressions of some pilots about the 2021 bikes, the Ongetta rider denies that the machine is modified and praised the way his rival, Eric Granado has adapted: we have seen him riding better than anyone else. We need to learn from him, understand where he is strong and to use the bike the way he does. He showed us that we can make a difference.

Regarding his future, Casadei revealed that he would like to rejoin Moto2. “I would love to. I’m trying my best to find a team as soon as possible. I know it’s not easy, but I feel ready to fight against any rival,” he said.

Background

Among the highlights of his career are his early days on the Italian Minibike Championship in 2008. He competed at the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2015, before returning to the Championship in his homeland, where he participated at Moto3 and Supersport 600 categories with Paolo Simoncelli’s teams.

In 2019, Casadei stepped up to MotoE, wearing Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse team colors.
